A HANDS-ON APPROACH

Why Sandtray Therapy

Sandtray therapy is a powerful way to process thoughts, feelings, and experiences—sometimes even ones we can’t quite put into words. While therapists have used sandtray since the 1930s, recent brain research helps us understand why it works so well.

Our brains process information in pictures first, then attach words later. Think about it—before we could speak as babies, we understood the world through images. Even now, you’ve probably seen a picture that made you feel something deeply, but you struggled to explain why. That’s because the
right side of your brain processes images, emotions, and early experiences, while the left side handles language and logic. Sometimes, important memories and feelings stay stuck in the right brain, making them hard to talk about.

That’s where sandtray therapy comes in. By creating scenes in the sand, you’re giving your brain a way to express and organize these experiences. And when I see your world in the tray, I can understand you better and help you more effectively. It might feel a little different at first, but we
promise—it’s backed by science.

The next time you come in, we’ll try sandtray. My guess? You’ll start making connections you never realized before. It helps your brain work together more smoothly and helps me support you in the best way possible.

So, what do you think? Want to give it a try?
