  • What services does Resilience Counseling & Play Therapy offer?
    Resilience Counseling & Play Therapy provides mental health counseling for children (ages 3+), adolescents, and adults. We specialize in play therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), EMDR, and sandtray therapy. Our services also address anxiety, depression, AD/HD, grief, family dynamics, perinatal mood disorders, and more.
  • What ages do you work with?
    We offer therapy for children (ages 3+), adolescents, and adults. In addition, our Registered Play Therapist can provide family therapy for children under 3 years with their parents.
  • Do you accept insurance?
    We accept a variety of insurance plans. Please contact our office to confirm whether we are in-network with your provider.
  • Do you accept Medicaid?
    Yes, we are in network with a few managed Medicaid plans like McLaren. Please contact our office to confirm if we are in-network with your Medicaid plan.
  • Do you bill secondary plans?
    Yes, we can bill some secondary commercial and Medicaid plans. Please let our administrative assistant know immediately if you have a secondary plan so that we can coordinate benefits.
  • What can I expect in my first session?
    Your first session will be an intake appointment where we gather information about your concerns, history, and goals for therapy. For children, we may meet with parents first to discuss background information.
  • Do you offer telehealth services?
    Yes, we provide telehealth sessions for adolescents and adults when appropriate. Availability may depend on your location and specific needs.
  • What is play therapy?
    Play therapy is a therapeutic approach designed to help children express their thoughts and emotions through play, which is their natural form of communication. This helps them process experiences and develop coping skills.
  • How long are sessions, and how often will I need to come?
    Sessions typically last 26-53 minutes. The frequency of sessions depends on individual needs and treatment goals, but most clients attend weekly or biweekly sessions.
  • Do you prescribe medication?
    No, we do not prescribe medication. However, we can provide referrals to psychiatrists or other medical professionals if medication evaluation is needed.
  • How do I schedule an appointment?
    You can schedule an appointment by calling our office or filling out the contact form on our website. Our staff will assist you in finding a convenient time for your session.
  • What should I do if I need to cancel an appointment?
    Please notify us at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment to avoid a Cancellation or No Show fee.
  • Is therapy confidential?
    Yes, therapy is confidential, and we follow strict privacy laws. However, there are legal exceptions, such as situations involving harm to oneself or others, child abuse, or court orders.
  • Can parents be involved in their child's therapy?
    Yes, parental involvement is encouraged, and we will discuss the best approach based on the child’s needs. Parent consultations and family sessions may also be incorporated as appropriate.
